A modern wall clock should tell the time without telling you it is there, and this one glides through the day on a movement that sweeps without a sound. Raised 3D numerals sit behind a lens of tempered glass, giving you a clean, minimalist face that stays readable from across the room.

  • Silent timekeeping with no distracting ticks
  • Lens of tempered glass protecting the face
  • Raised 3D numerals for effortless reading
  • Clean profile that suits bedroom, kitchen, or office

Accurate and quiet, it blends into your décor instead of competing with it, the time and nothing else.

Overview

A clock is the one object in a room that makes a noise all day whether you want it or not. Second after second, you stop hearing it by four in the afternoon and hear nothing else at two in the morning. Still™ works the other way: the second hand glides and does not step, and the room stays quiet.

The movement is continuous-sweep quartz, not the stepping kind. A stepping movement jerks the hand forward once a second, and the click is the escapement landing. A sweep movement drives the hand in one unbroken motion, so nothing lands and nothing clicks. It runs on one AA battery, not included because the cell packed with a clock is usually half dead, and a fresh alkaline one lasts about a year.

The dial is behind tempered glass, not the thin acrylic of most wall clocks: it takes a knock, does not fog and will not scratch and yellow as acrylic does after two summers on a sunny wall. The numerals are separate raised pieces that stand proud of the face, so each casts a small shadow and the time is read at a glance and not with a squint. The frame is satin ABS, 4.5 cm deep, and the 25 cm clock weighs under half a kilo, so one nail or one adhesive hook holds it.

Three sizes for three jobs. 20 cm for a hallway, a desk wall or the space above a door. 25 cm is the one most people choose, readable from the sofa and small enough not to take over the wall. 30 cm for a kitchen or an open-plan room, where you read it from three metres away with your hands full.

Care

Dust the glass with a dry microfibre cloth. If it needs more, breathe on it and wipe. Do not spray anything at it, because liquid running down the bezel can get behind the lens. Avoid solvents and any glass cleaner that contains ammonia, which dull the satin frame permanently. If the clock loses time, the cause is nearly always the battery and not the movement, so change the AA before assuming anything worse. Take the battery out if the clock is to be stored for more than a few months, because a leaking cell is the one thing that will ruin it.

Materials

Satin ABS frame, tempered glass lens, printed dial with separate raised ABS numerals, and metal hour, minute and second hands on a continuous-sweep quartz movement. Powered by one AA battery, not included. Verified sizes: 8 in / 20 cm, 10 in / 25 cm and 12 in / 30 cm across the frame, all 4.5 cm deep; the 20 cm clock weighs about 480 g. One keyhole slot is moulded into the back panel, so a single nail, screw or adhesive hook is all the fixing needed.

Why it does not tick

A continuous-sweep quartz movement moves the second hand smoothly and does not step it, so there is no escapement click to hear at 2amTempered glass over the dial in place of thin acrylic: it takes a knock, resists fogging and does not scratch or yellow in sunlightRaised numerals stand proud of the face and cast small shadows, so the time can be read at a glance from across the room

It blends into the room

Above a shelf, over a door or next to a kitchen window, it does its job without taking over the wall. There is nothing to plug in, no cable and no glow, only one AA battery behind the back panel and a keyhole slot for one nail.

Hands settling the Hush Clock onto a brass wall hook

On the wall in about a minute

Fit the battery, set the time with the wheel on the back and hang it. It weighs under half a kilo, so it needs no wall plug or bracket; a nail or a good adhesive hook is enough, and the keyhole slot lets you nudge it level afterwards.

Hush Clock detail callouts: tempered glass face, raised 3D numerals, silent sweep movement

Glass, not acrylic

A tempered glass lens over raised numerals and metal hands, driven by a sweep movement. That is the difference between a clock that still looks right in three years and one that has turned cloudy and started to click.

Bought it for the bedroom, silent as promised

We had a ticker in here before and I genuinely used to lie awake counting it. Put my ear right against this one and there is a very faint whirr, nothing you can hear from the bed. Got the 25 cm in all white and it reads fine from across the room without the light on, once your eyes adjust.

Order the 30 cm for a kitchen

I bought the 25 first and it looked small on a big wall, so I ordered the 30 as well and moved the smaller one to the hall. Both fine. The numbers are actually raised, which I didn't expect at this price, and the glass feels like glass rather than plastic.

Bring your own battery

No AA in the box, which is stated but I still managed not to read it and had a clock on the wall showing the wrong time for two days. Once it was in, it has kept time exactly and been completely silent. Black frame version, the white face is very slightly warm rather than stark, which suited us.

Frequently asked questions

Is it truly silent, or only quieter?
It has no tick at all. The second hand sweeps continuously and does not step, so there is no escapement click. Held to your ear, it gives a faint whirr from the motor, like any sweep clock. From a metre away it is silent, which is the point: it can hang in a bedroom or a nursery and go unnoticed.
How can I select a size?
8 in / 20 cm suits a hallway, a desk wall, a small bathroom or the space above a door. 10 in / 25 cm is the size most people choose, easy to read from a sofa or a bed without dominating the wall. 12 in / 30 cm is for kitchens and open-plan rooms, where you read it from three metres away, often with your hands full. All three are 4.5 cm deep.
Is a battery included?
No. It takes one AA, and we leave it out because the cells shipped with clocks have usually spent a year in a warehouse and fail within weeks. Fit a fresh alkaline battery and expect about twelve months. Rechargeable cells work but run at a slightly lower voltage, so they need changing more often.
How is it hung?
A keyhole slot is moulded into the back panel, so it hangs on one nail, screw or adhesive hook, with no bracket and no wall plug needed on plaster. The 20 cm clock weighs about 480 g and the 30 cm is still under a kilo, so a good stick-on hook rated for 1 kg holds it if you prefer not to put a nail in the wall.
Is the lens real glass?
Yes, tempered glass, not the acrylic sheet used on most clocks at this price. It matters more than it sounds: acrylic scratches when dusted, fogs in a steamy kitchen or bathroom and yellows in direct sun. Tempered glass does none of these, and if it is ever hit hard enough it breaks into blunt granules and not shards.
Can it hang in a bathroom or kitchen?
Yes to both, within reason. The glass lens and sealed back panel cope with the humidity of a normal kitchen or family bathroom without fogging. It is not rated for outdoor use, so do not hang it in an unheated porch or a garden room where condensation would form on the movement overnight, and keep it off the wall directly above a hob or a kettle.
